Ethiopian athlete Tamirat Tola won the New York marathon.
The 2016 Olympic bronze medalist in the 10,000 meters clocked 2 hours 4 minutes and 58 seconds, updating the course record, which previously belonged to Kenyan Geoffrey Mutai (2:05.06). Kenyan representative Albert Korir finished second (2:06.57), Ethiopian Shura Kitata (2:07.11) third.
The women’s event was won by Kenyan Hellen Obiri (2:27.23), who won the Boston Marathon earlier this season. Ethiopian Letesenbet Gidey lost six seconds to finish second. Kenyan Sharon Lokedi (+10 seconds) completes the leading trio.
