Top Rank President Duboeuf: Fury will be in great shape in a fight with Usyk

The fight has been postponed to early 2024

President of the promotion company TopRank Todd DuBoeuf hopes that the WBC champion Tyson Fury will approach a unification fight with the holder of the WBA/WBO/IBF/IBO heavyweight titles Alexander Usik at its best.

“Relatively hard work has been done. The hard work of getting people to agree is also done. I didn’t feel like any of the parties involved who were willing to do this in December were moving in any direction other than moving forward.”

“Right now we’re just trying to confirm some things, the date and all that. I think there is a promise, there is a glimmer of hope, a big glimmer that this will come true. “In the coming weeks, maybe it won’t be weeks but days, we should see something that solidifies the deal.”

“I think after the fight [с Нганну] Fury made it clear: “Hey, it’s all on me, I did what I did.” I don’t think he showed his full arsenal. On the other hand, Francis was able to show what he was capable of when people had such low expectations. I think the next time you see Tyson Fury he’ll be in great shape.”

In October 2022, DuBoeuf had no doubt that Usyk and Fury would meet in the ring during 2023. This fight was scheduled for April, but fell through due to contractual differences.

Usyk challenged Fury to a fight after successfully defending his WBA/WBO/IBO/IBF titles against Daniel Dubois. The Ukrainian’s manager, Alexander Krasyuk, recently announced that the unification fight will be held in early 2024. The reason for the transfer was the damage Fury suffered in his last fight with Ngannou.

Note that the contract for the fight for the absolute heavyweight title contains a rematch clause. According to promoter Eddie Hearn, the Briton may refuse to fight the Ukrainian altogether and end his career.
