“The points are strange. Gubanova should not make mistakes, other skaters have the right to do so” – Leonova on judging at a tournament in France

The choreographer of Evgeny Rukavitsyn’s group, Alena Leonova, told that the figure skater’s scores Anastasia Gubanova in the free program of the ISU Grand Prix stage in France turned out to be strange.

Gubanova took sixth place in the tournament, after the short program she was second. The skater received 120.93 points for her free skate.

— I don’t know what she did in terms of levels and underrotation, but visually the performance looks clean, without drops or gross errors. But there was no second 3-3 cascade, in the second half of the program the rotation speed decreased slightly, more advantages could have been achieved. But I think she didn’t skate for those points, she could have scored more in the components. For me the points were strange, I didn’t agree with everything, even though I could have skated better. Nastya cannot make any mistakes, there is no room for mistakes, she must skate cleanly. Although other athletes do not face this situation, they can make mistakes, fall and get good scores. It’s a shame, I fully support Nastya. In my opinion, they gave her small points for the short program, the short program was wonderful, they could have given more,” Leonova told .

In January, Gubanova won the European Championship held in Espoo (Finland). The 20-year-old athlete has already represented Russia in international competitions; in 2021 it was announced that she would join the Georgian national team.
