“I won’t skate like I used to” – Roman Kostomarov

Olympic ice dancing champion Roman Kostomarov said he would not be able to show the same skating as before.

The athlete underwent several amputations after his hospitalization in 2023 and was released in July.

— Do you want to get back on the ice?

– I’ll try. I won’t ride like before. The main work of the ankles is the boots, of which I am now deprived. A very subtle feeling. You know what a skate is and how to control it. The lower part (legs) has been trained since childhood, now it is gone.

Now my legs are already stronger, I can do a lot of things, I want to go out on the ice on skates. The sensations are different. I look at the guys and think, “Did I really skate once too?” – Kostomarov said during the federal educational marathon “Knowledge”.

Kostomarov, partnered with Tatyana Navka, won gold at the 2006 Olympic Games in Turin, and also won the World Championships twice and the European Championships three times.
