Athletistic/Figure skating. 2006 Olympic pairs ice dance champion, Russian figure skater Roman Kostomarov shared his experience of adapting to daily life with prosthetics.

“I am adapting little by little to daily life, I am getting used to brushing my teeth, washing my face, doing various tasks in the kitchen, but there are still difficulties. We now have a little boy, he is only 46. Thanks again to my wife, but now I can do it on my own by brushing my teeth and blowing my nose. In the training room I have already adapted a little, but at home … Opening the refrigerator door, handling a spoon is still quite difficult ” Regardless of the type of prosthesis, it is still not what normal hands could offer. I still feel all objects and things. I hope that in the near future prosthetics will become more functional.

The hardest part is learning to live with what you have. I have always really appreciated my independence, I am used to doing everything myself. Yes, in sports we worked as a team, but I always think that in any difficult situation you need to be patient, do everything for yourself, achieve your goals. If you lose, you will regret it for the rest of your life,” Kostomarov said in an interview with RIA Novosti Sport.
