The International Ski Federation (FIS) has announced the extension of the suspension of Russian and Belarusian athletes from competitions under its auspices until the end of the summer season.
The decision was taken at the first meeting of the newly elected FIS Council in Zurich on Tuesday.
– The current policy that Russian and Belarusian athletes cannot participate in FIS competitions outside their country will remain in place until the end of the summer season. The Council will come back to this subject in the autumn as the situation in Ukraine develops, said a press release published on the official website of the FIS.
In March, the FIS followed the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and suspended representatives of Russia and Belarus from international tournaments until the end of the 2021/22 season.
The Board also approved an overall 10% increase in the prize pool for all World Cups starting next season. In this case, the FIS will contribute 20% of the total amount.
