For the first time in Olympic history, all cycling events will have an equal number of men and women

For the first time in the history of the Olympics, all cycling events will have the same number of male and female athletes, according to a statement from the International Cycling Union (UCI).

The UCI on Monday released the qualification system for the 2024 Olympics, which was jointly developed with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the International Paralympic Committee (IPC).

In the group and individual road races, 180 qualification places were allocated (88 places for each gender, four more for the host country, two places for each gender), from the National Olympic Committee (NOC) – eight places for four men and women.

In the road race, 80 qualifying places will be allocated according to the UCI World Ranking by country. The remaining eight places for each gender will be allocated to countries not qualified for the UCI World Ranking, based on their performance at the 2023 Road World Championships and 2023 Continental Championships.

There will be 35 places for men and 35 places for women for the individual races. Of those classified in the group race, a maximum of two athletes from the NOC and of each gender can receive places in the individual race.

For the 12 Olympic cycling events, the track will have 190 qualifying places – 95 places for men and the same number for women, but a maximum of 14 NOC places for both men and women. They will be distributed according to the UCI international ranking.

The ATV will have 72 seats – 34 for each gender, two for the host country plus two seats that promote the sport and provide equal opportunities for developing countries.

The total quota in BMX is 48 places – 22 for each gender, two for the host country and another two for developing countries.
