Athletistic/Others. Olympic speed skating champion and State Duma deputy Svetlana Jourova shared her opinion that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) seeks to transfer the decision on the admission of Russian athletes to participate in international tournaments to the Arbitration Court of sport (TAS).

“Some may ask why we should spend time and resources on these legal proceedings? But for us, this is an opportunity to publicly state our position and once again highlight the cynicism of this whole situation. Russians and other citizens are held to different standards – what is allowed to them is not available to Russians. That’s what the IOC said. But why? Where is the fair and humane court? Now we we will have to trust it.

I have a hypothesis: maybe the IOC wants the court to decide on admission? After all, challenging a court decision will be extremely difficult for Ukraine and other countries. The IOC is probably under pressure and the judges must be honest, fair and respect the law. It seems to me that the IOC, under pressure, wants to transfer responsibility for this decision to the CAS,” Zhurova emphasized in an interview with RIA Novosti.
