The mentor of the Ukrainian champion took responsibility for the disappointing result
Head coach Rukha U-19 Sergei Zadorozhny commented on the devastating defeat from Midtjylland in the first match of the second round of the Champions Path UEFA Youth League.
“We lost on all counts – tactically, physically, mentally. Midtjylland was superior to us in everything. Of course, the Danes played a good match, but Rukh “helped” them with this today – the team did not win the fight inside the field, lost the rebound, and lacked aggression. There was a different level of resistance than there is in the Ukrainian Championship.”
“This kind of game didn’t suit us, that’s why there was a substitution at half-time when we tried to improve the game in the center of the field. Other substitutions should have helped later, but in the end what we saw on the field happened.”
“I take responsibility for this defeat upon myself. Now you need to think about what to do next to get a positive result in Denmark. The guys are now dejected, it’s hard for them mentally, but they must look at their mistakes and try to correct them.”
Let us remind you that in a formal home match in Stalowa Wola, Poland, Rukh lost to their Danish peers without a chance – 0:4, and the Ukrainian youths conceded three goals after the break.
The return match will take place in Denmark on November 29. To get into the European Cup spring, the young Lviv team needs to accomplish a feat and win back a four-goal handicap on the road.
Rukh U-19 is the winner of the Ukrainian Championship 2022/23. In the current youth league, Zadorozhny’s team is in fourth place after 13 rounds, only two points behind the leaders Dynamo and Dnepr-1.
