The decision was approved by 243 votes in favor.
The Verkhovna Rada voted for release Vadim Gutzeit from performing duties Minister of Youth and Sports of Ukraine.
The functionary will focus on working in National Olympic Committeeof which he is the head.
52-year-old Gutzeit is a former Soviet and Ukrainian fencer, Olympic champion in 1992, participant in the 1996 and 2000 Olympic Games. Subsequently – head coach of the Ukrainian fencing team (2002 – 2010), president of the Ukrainian Fencing Federation (2017 – March 2023).
Gutzeit has served as Minister of Youth and Sports since March 2020. The other day, Vadim submitted a letter of resignation from his position in the Cabinet of Ministers, after which he announced “manipulations regarding the combination of the positions of the Minister of Sports and the head of the NOC of Ukraine.”
In November 2022, Gutzeit was elected as the new president of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine. He received more than 80% of the votes. The official stated that if he wins the presidential election, the NOC will leave his post in the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, which he has held since March 2020.
