The Verkhovna Rada allocated 7.5 billion hryvnia for sports in the 2024 budget

Main expenditure items – elite sports, Olympics and Paralympic Games

Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine approved budget for 2024. It allocates for sports 7.512 billion hryvnia.

Next year’s sports budget is twice as large as the current one (3.7 billion hryvnia for 2023). At the same time, in 2021, 8.3 billion UAH were allocated for sports. Last year’s cuts were due to the onset of full-scale Russian aggression, as well as the absence of major sporting competitions. In 2024, Ukraine will take part in the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris.

The largest expenditure items in the 2024 budget:

  • 4 billion 255.7 million UAH – development of physical culture, elite sports and reserve sports (in 2023 – 2.498 billion UAH);
  • 1 billion 96.9 million UAH – preparation and participation in the Paralympic and Deaflympic Games (in 2023 – 146.6 million UAH);
  • UAH 988.8 million – development of sports among persons with disabilities and their physical education and sports rehabilitation (in 2023 – UAH 682.7 million);
  • UAH 777.4 million – preparation for and participation in the 2024 Summer Olympics and 2024 Winter Youth Olympic Games (in 2023 – UAH 177.9 million).

Earlier, the Verkhovna Rada voted for the resignation of Vadim Gutzeit from the post of Minister of Youth and Sports. The functionary will continue to work as president of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine.

The 2024 Olympics in Paris will take place from July 26 to August 11, 2024. The Paralympic Games will take place from August 28 to September 8, 2024.
