Blue-yellow will take part in the World Cup
Mentor Ukrainian women’s handball team Vitaly Andronov spoke about the goals, plans and objectives of the team for the upcoming Women’s World Cup 2023.
“The most important goal of our World Championship is to get to the next round. I won’t tell anyone a secret that the most important game will be with Kazakhstan, which we need to win and move on. That’s what we’re concentrating on.”
“It is clear that the favorites [группы] – Brazil and Spain. We will play the same with them, but our main game is with Kazakhstan. The main thing is to gain experience and positive emotions from being at this forum.”
“I am a supporter of the fact that first of all you need to start from your game. Spain is a team with active defense and fast attack. As for Brazil, I don’t know, perhaps, let’s hope that they are not tuned in to us, because they have already, in principle, decided on their issue of qualifying for the Olympics. Therefore, it makes sense for us to cling on, climb as far as possible at the World Cup with every game and dream of the Olympics.”
The Ukrainian national team is in Group G, where it will play with Brazil, Spain and Kazakhstan. The Ukrainians will meet Brazil on November 29. Matches with Spain and Kazakhstan are scheduled for December 1 and 3, respectively.
The three best teams from each quartet will advance to the main round of the World Championship. Next, 24 teams will be divided into 4 groups of 6 teams. The two best teams from each group will advance to the playoffs of the world championship.
The Ukrainian women’s handball team will play at the World Championships for the first time since 2009. 14 years ago the blue-yellows took 17th place. The best result of the Ukrainian team is fourth place at the 2003 World Cup.
The World Handball Championship among women’s national teams will take place from November 29 to December 17, 2023 in Denmark, Norway and Sweden. The current world champion is Norway.
