Coach of the Ukrainian women’s handball team Andronov: We know our strengths and weaknesses

According to the coach, there is a problem on the right side

Mentor Ukrainian women’s handball team Vitaly Andronov commented on the personnel situation in his team ahead of Women’s World Cup 2023.

“I think that, most likely, Irina Glebko will not be there, so we are preparing to perform without her. The situation is the same with Daria Kot and Diana Dmitrishin – 99% of the time, none of them will help us.”

“We still have a problem with Evgenia Levchenko – also with health. I don’t know whether she will or not. That’s why we have a lot of questions on the right side [по составу]. On the left corner, Marina Konovalova is also not doing well with her health.”

“The right welterweight will most likely be Zhenya Koguch, a young, tall girl. She is a candidate for this trip. Milana Shukal will also be there – in Galician she plays both at the right corner and at the position of right welterweight. We’ll think about something and put some of the right-handed girls in this position.”

“We haven’t discovered anything new for ourselves. We know our strengths and weaknesses. They showed once again that a very important component in women’s handball is psychological preparation.”

The Ukrainian women’s handball team will play at the World Championships for the first time since 2009. 14 years ago the blue-yellows took 17th place. The best result of the Ukrainian team is fourth place at the 2003 World Cup.

The Ukrainian national team is in Group G, where it will play with Brazil, Spain and Kazakhstan. The Ukrainians will meet Brazil on November 29. Matches with Spain and Kazakhstan are scheduled for December 1 and 3, respectively.

The three best teams from each quartet will advance to the main round of the World Championship. Next, 24 teams will be divided into 4 groups of 6 teams. The two best teams from each group will advance to the playoffs of the world championship.

The World Handball Championship among women’s national teams will take place from November 29 to December 17, 2023 in Denmark, Norway and Sweden. The current world champion is Norway.
