Five-time world champion in rhythmic gymnastics Yana Batyrshina told that she had undergone surgery to remove the meniscus and that the injury was a consequence of her sporting career.
Earlier, Batyrshina said on social networks that she had undergone two operations in one month.
– I have a torn meniscus. I had it resected. Apparently, this is a consequence of my sporting career. I didn’t do anything to make this happen. Doctors suggested it was a consequence of his sporting career. I just squatted down and played with the child. At that moment, I felt a sharp pain. It wasn’t a bike, skis or skates. Once again, I didn’t fall. I was just playing hide and seek with my son and crouched down, but it was hard to get up. After that, I did an MRI and it turned out that I had a torn meniscus. This type of sports injury is common in our gymnastics. This happened to me now.
— How long will healing take?
— Yesterday, I went out on crutches. Today, it’s still the same. But I really hope to recover in a month and go out dancing in heels. I will do anything for that. Now a day has passed since the operation, for another three to five days you need to be careful and limit your loads. Then I will go to physiotherapy and lymphatic drainage to speed up recovery. It’s such a place… If you keep a low profile now, it will be harder later. Therefore, you need to be active enough for the knee to return to normal,” Batyrshina told .
Batyrshina is a silver medalist at the 1996 Olympic Games, a five-time world champion and a two-time European champion.
Since March 7, Russian and Belarusian athletes have been deprived of the right to participate in tournaments under the auspices of the International Gymnastics Federation due to the situation in Ukraine.
