Riza Chalimbay replaced Yilmaz as head coach of Besiktas

The former forward of the Turkish national team lasted exactly a month in his post

Besiktas fired Burak Yilmaza from the post of head coach and appointed him in his place Riza Chalymbaya.

38-year-old Yilmaz only completed his playing career this summer and joined the coaching staff of the Istanbul club as an assistant to Şenol Güneş. After the latter’s resignation on October 10, the ex-forward of three Istanbul giants, Lille and the Turkish national team began to act as head coach.

Under the leadership of Burak, the Black Eagles played five matches (three in the Turkish Super League, two in the Conference League) and lost four of them.

Besiktas promptly appointed 60-year-old Riza Chalymbay to replace Yilmaz. Since 2001, this specialist has coached 13 Turkish clubs, including Besiktas (2005). Together with Sivasspor, Chalymbay won the 2022 Turkish Cup.

After 11 rounds, Besiktas is in fifth place in the Turkish Championship, 12 points behind the leader Galatasaray.

In the Conference League, the Istanbul giants scored only one point in four rounds, in particular, under Yilmaz they lost twice to Buda-Glimt. Let us remind you that in the qualification of this tournament Besiktas (still under Gunes) passed Dynamo Kiev.
