Olympic figure skating champion Evgeny Plushenko supported the creation of competitions in the “Battle of Schools” format in Russia.
On November 11, in the small arena of the CSKA sports complex, the third stage of the Moscow Sports Figure Skating Cup of the 2023/24 season will take place – a youth team competition between athletes aged 6 to 12.
— What do you think of the “Battle of the Schools” format? Do you regret that this didn’t happen in your time?
— In my time, to be honest, there were a lot of competitions. Of course, the “battle of the schools” did not exist. Five years ago I told such a story to create a club competition. They appeared. Someone listens, goes and does such things. I think it’s great.
I would like to do more competitions like this for adults in the future. I think we’ll get there too. Because we now have quite a few competitions and there are no international starts. This must be done and developed within the country. It doesn’t matter whether we participate in international competitions or not. There are now many public and private schools. It is necessary for schools to compete. This is the right path,” reports a correspondent, reporting Plushenko’s words.
