Former world champion Groves: I doubt that Tyson will fight Usyk

The Usyk-Fury fight will not take place in 2023 due to Tyson’s injury

Former world champion in super middleweight, Briton George Groves, is confident that the holder of the WBC belt Tyson Fury will continue to avoid a unification fight with the WBO/WBA/IBF/IBO heavyweight champion Alexander Usik.

“I don’t think Fury will return to the ring again, but if he decides to do it, it will only be for a rematch with Ngannou. I doubt that Tyson will fight Usyk. I had hopes for the fight against Alexander on December 23, but after he refused the press conference after the fight with Francis, I understood everything.”

“Many people think that I criticize Fury because I am a big fan of Usyk. But no. I’m just appreciating Tyson’s achievements. The guy earned more than enough during his career. So the question becomes, should he roll the dice? Of course, beating Usyk and getting a big payday is a huge achievement, but what happens if he loses? He calls himself the worst person on the planet. What will happen to this?

The fight between Usik and Fury was planned to be organized on December 23 in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia. However, it later became clear that the “Gypsy King” would not have time to prepare for this time after the fight with ex-UFC champion Francis Ngannou.

The Ukrainian’s promoter Alexander Krasyuk said that the unification fight between Usik and WBC belt holder Tyson Fury will not take place on December 23 and will be held in early 2024. The reason for the transfer was the damage Fury suffered in his last fight with Ngannou.
