Yana Rudkovskaya: “I want my son to participate in several Olympic Games and not end his career at 15-16 years old”

Wife of double Olympic champion Evgenia Plushenko and co-owner of the Academy “Angels of Plyushchenko”, Yana Rudkovskaya spoke about the guidelines of her son Alexandra Plushenko in figure skating.

Alexander Plushenko is 10 years old, and from the age of three he performed with his father in ice shows. Since 2017, he has been studying at the family figure skating academy. Previously, the athlete won the competition in the second sports category at the third stage of the “Battle of Schools” in Moscow, setting a personal best in the free program.

— We are satisfied with Sasha’s performance. Working normally in skating, on the triple lutz he was under-rotated, although he did it in the warm-up and prepared it in skating. Now he just does all the triple jumps. There was good organization at the “Battle of the Schools”, everything was going well. He won objectively and on point. We will strengthen the content. Everything in its time.

Does this remind you of young Evgeniy? Sasha is quite stable. He has already skated cleanly in his second competition, he loves skating in shows, he is very artistic. Sasha is having fun, singing with Michael Jackson and enjoying the performances. For me, as a producer, it is very important that he is not only an athlete, but also a showman on the ice. I love that our son loves competition.

As a mother, of course, I worry, so I watch the skating replays and don’t go to the competitions. Sasha has a talisman, my second son is Nikolai. It also helps to configure it.

The child is ten years old and he jumps all the triple jumps. Now we need to strengthen the content and work hard. Dad doesn’t overdo it, he has his own vision of the process. He believes that we are moving slowly and surely towards the goal. We are not in a hurry, we have a long race over a long distance. We do not want our child to end their career at 15-16 years old. Our goal is for Sasha to go through a long sporting journey, at least half of the path traveled by her father. We want our son to participate in several Olympic Games and show the highest level. This is our goal and our dream, like that of every athlete in the highest sport.

We have our own strategic plan. We follow it strictly. Sasha is a hard worker and a very charismatic boy; yesterday, many fans came to cheer him and many journalists watched him! This is a record number, so the burden of responsibility is very heavy. I hope Sasha can cope with it with the help of our support from Evgeniy.
