FBU President Brodsky appealed to Prime Minister Shmygal with a request to help resolve the issue of allowing spectators to attend sporting events

We are talking about the possibility of admitting no more than 200 fans, subject to all safety standards, “in order to support and popularize sports in Ukraine even in conditions of war”

The president Ukrainian Basketball Federation (FBU) Mikhail Brodsky sent an open letter to Prime Minister of Ukraine Denis Shmygalin which he asked for assistance with the return of spectators to the stands.

The functionary notes that the sport is on the brink of survival due to the critical funding situation. Ticket sales can provide significant financial support for participants and organizers of sporting events.

The appeal notes that since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Russia, all basketball competitions in Ukraine have been held without spectators and only in sports facilities that have prepared shelters for those present in the hall.

Moreover, from May 2022, the public in Ukraine has the opportunity to visit cinemas, theaters and concert halls, subject to compliance with the necessary safety requirements.

The FBU has previously repeatedly contacted the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine on this issue, but to no avail.

Taking into account the above, Brodsky asks Shmygal to “instruct the Ministry of Youth and Sports to make a positive decision on the issue of admitting spectators to all-Ukrainian sports competitions, subject to the observance of safety measures during their holding and the admission of spectators in numbers depending on the possibilities of sheltering sports facilities, but not more than 200 spectators.”

Back in February 2023, the Ukrainian Hockey Federation made a similar request to the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

Let us recall that in early November the Verkhovna Rada voted for the resignation of Vadim Gutzeit from the post of Minister of Youth and Sports of Ukraine.
