Athletistic/Figure skating. Former Olympic diving champion and today sports journalist Elena Vaitsekhovskaya expressed her views regarding the judges’ assessment of the performance of figure skater Kamila Valieva in the free program of the Russian Grand Prix stage in Kazan.

In her analysis, Vaitsekhovskaya noted that the referees could “not notice” the loss of balance in the slide and refrain from awarding the athlete a second penalty point. She also pointed out more serious errors by the judges this season and expressed the opinion that Valieva’s judges’ scores may have been influenced by external factors. Vaitsekhovskaya concluded that such changes could only occur with explicit instructions, and if so, it could mean that Valieva had lost her “untouchable” status and been brought back to earth.
