Athletistic/Others. Chairman of the State Duma Committee for Physical Culture and Sports Dmitry Svishchev expressed dissatisfaction with the admission criteria for Russian gymnasts of the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG), calling them mockery. The criteria presented by the FIG include the requirement that athletes have no ties to the Russian military or security forces. Gymnasts must apply for neutral status to the FIG and this must be submitted at least 60 days before the competition registration deadline.

“It’s simply inexplicable, who came up with these criteria? Some older people probably had this nonsense. Maybe it’s time for them to retire, and we should attract the younger generation to leadership. They could bring a new perspective on the situation in the world and defend the interests of athletes, regardless of their citizenship, skin color and religious beliefs,” Svishchev said in an interview with Match TV.
