Russian skier Savely Korostelev explained how math helps him calculate events on the ski slope in advance.
— Mathematics teaches you to calculate everything. It’s such an interconnected process. I remember when I was studying, the teacher told us during the test: the top three would get A’s.
I then learned to calculate the equation in my head before even writing it down in my notebook. When you constantly think about something in advance, your head gets used to working quickly.
Besides, I remember my uncle telling me, when I was still very young, that you could see a fall on a ski slope a few seconds before it happened. At the Russian Championships in Syktyvkar, when Gleb Retivykh fell in a turn while stepping on the ski of Belarusian Egor Shpuntov, I actually saw this fall in advance. True, I myself could not resist, but I simply had nowhere to go at that moment, ”Korostelev told RT.
Before the start of pre-season training, 19-year-old Korostelev joined Egor Sorin’s group.
