Athletistic/ Olympic Games. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has recommended that all National Olympic Committees (NOCs) refuse to participate in the World Friendship Games in Russia. This information was confirmed by James McLeod, director of the IOC Relations Department with the NOCs.

“Given the increasing politicization of world sport, the IOC wishes to ask all NOCs to exercise caution with regard to this initiative. Any participation of NOCs in the World Friendship Games would not only contravene the recommendation of the IOC Executive Board of February 25, 2022 regarding sporting events organized on Russian territory, but and the collective goal of the Olympic movement to preserve the independence and autonomy of sport,” McLeod said as quoted by Inside the Games.

The Friendship Games are scheduled to take place from September 15 to 29, 2024 in Moscow and Yekaterinburg. The Olympic sports program will include basketball, boxing, rhythmic and artistic gymnastics, athletics, aquatic sports and many others. Interestingly, the World Friendship Games will also host tournaments in non-Olympic sports – acrobatic rock and roll, beach soccer, sports programming and others. The competitions were held against the backdrop of IOC sanctions against Russian and Belarusian athletes.
