According to the UIPM, more than 90% of athletes are satisfied with the new discipline of modern pentathlon

The International Union of Modern Pentathlon (UIPM) has conducted a survey of athletes about testing a new fifth discipline of modern pentathlon, intended to replace show jumping.

The UIPM executive committee previously decided to remove equestrianism from the pentathlon program amid the horse abuse scandal at the Tokyo Olympics. On June 27-28 in Ankara (Turkey) a test of a new discipline was passed – a strip of 9 obstacles.

Of the 36 pentathletes who participated in the competition, 28 answered the research questions. According to the survey results, 92% of pentathletes were satisfied with the overall experience of the test events and 88% of athletes enjoyed participating in the test event.

Also, the design of the obstacles is approved by the majority (84% of respondents are satisfied with this criterion) and the level of technical complexity of the course (71%).

Earlier, Inside the Games reported that more than 650 athletes voted against UIPM President Klaus Schormann over the decision to remove equestrian from the pentathlon program after the 2024 Paris Olympics.
