Athletistic/ Others. President of the All-Russian Rhythmic Gymnastics Federation (VFKhG) Irina Viner appreciated the statement of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), which recommended all NOCs to skip the 2024 World Friendship Games in Russia.
“This move by the IOC did not surprise me at all. From the very beginning it was clear that the IOC would adhere to a similar policy regarding competitions in Russia. Athletes will come to these competitions simply to perform and receive decent rewards and not to organize political demonstrations. No one is going to demand that they give up the flag and change their uniform, as the IOC does with our athletes,” Wiener was quoted as saying by TASS.
The World Friendship Games are scheduled to take place in Russia in September 2024. They are scheduled one month after the end of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris (France).
