Famous functionaries justified this step by their reluctance to influence future elections of the president of the organization

Presidents Real Madrid And Barcelona, Florentino Perez And Joan Laportaleft their positions on the board of directors RFEF – Royal Spanish Football Federation.

At the end of October, the functionaries sent letters to the president of the organization, Pedro Rocha, in which they announced that they were resigning from the mentioned positions. Florentino and Joan justified this step by the fact that they do not want to interfere in the electoral process that will take place in the coming months in the RFEF.

Elections for the President of the Royal Federation are scheduled for the first quarter of 2024. The presidents of the two giants are reported to be the only RFEF board members to have resigned so far

78-year-old Florentino Perez has led Real Madrid since 2000 (with a three-year break). During his reign, Los Blancos won 57 trophies, including six league and Champions League triumphs. Perez is also notorious as the chairman of the Super League project, which in 2021 almost caused a serious split in European football.

Laporta, 61, was Barcelona president from 2003 to 2010. Under him, Blaugrana won the golden triplet at the end of the season and the historical sextet at the end of the calendar year. In March 2021, Joan was again elected to this post at the Catalan club. Under his leadership, Barcelona won La Liga in 2023.
