The ex-footballer of Turbine, Werder and Hamburg will become the first female coach in the history of the men’s Bundesliga
Marie-Louise Etaassistant to acting head coach Union Marco Grotewent down in history as the first female coach in the men’s Bundesliga in particular and the top championship in general.
32-year-old Eta (nee Bagehorn) previously played successfully in the midfield of FC Turbine Potsdam, with whom she won the Women’s Champions League. Marie-Louise also played for Hamburg and Werder, where she ended her career at 26 years old.
She began her coaching career as an assistant to Bettina Wiegmann in the German U-15 women’s national team. Then she began to independently train the Werder team of the same age.
Having received a license of the required category, Eta became an assistant to Marco Grote in the men’s team of the Berlin Union U-19. And now, when the position of head coach became vacant, the native of Dresden received a promotion along with her mentor.
Let us remind you that earlier on November 15 it became known about the dismissal of Urs Fischer, the coach who in five years raised the capital club from the Second Bundesliga to the Champions League, from the Union.
The club parted ways with the coach amid dismal results. In the Bundesliga, Union ranks 18th, having achieved only two wins in 11 rounds. At the group stage of the Champions League, the German team took only one point in four games. The Berlin club was also eliminated from the German Cup.
On November 25, Union Berlin will play with Augsburg in the national championship – it is there that Eta will make her debut on the coaching bench of the men’s Bundesliga club. On November 29, the Berlin team will fight with Braga in the 5th round of the Champions League.
