Everton stripped of 10 Premier League points for financial fair play violations

The club of Ukrainian Vitaly Mykolenko said it was preparing an appeal against the decision of the Premier League commission

Premier League Commission fined Everton for violating financial fair play. Club deprived of 10 points in the current English Championship.

The club said it considered the punishment disproportionate and unfair. Everton has begun preparations for an appeal against the decision of the Premier League Commission.

Everton previously recorded a financial loss of £304m over a three-year period against the Premier League’s £105m cap. It was reported that the Premier League recommended that the Liverpool club be docked 12 points.

The Liverpool club insist it is complying with the rules, that exceptions related to the coronavirus crisis should absolve it of liability and will “vigorously defend its position”.

In September it became known that a controlling stake in Everton had been bought from the previous owner, Iranian businessman Farhad Moshiri, by the American holding company 777 Partners, whose structure includes a number of football clubs around the world, including Genoa and Seville.

It was during Moshiri’s reign (since February 2016) that the Toffees’ financial problems occurred. For at least five years in a row, the club has reported serious financial losses.

After deducting 10 points, Everton moved to penultimate place in the Premier League with four points in the standings. In the next round, the team of Ukrainian Vitaly Mykolenko will host Manchester United on November 26.
