Athletistic/Others. The director general of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), Olivier Niggli, criticized Russia’s organization of the Friendship Games. He said that Russia has no right to organize such competitions, given that it is deprived of its status with the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

“We know Russia’s intention to organize the Friendship Games. We understand that they should not be organized within the framework of world sport. It is enough to see that the organization is carried out by the President of the federation, deprived of recognition from the IOC. “We do not know many details, but we believe it is necessary to draw attention to this event from the point of view of doping. It will be organized by a country whose anti-doping system does not comply with the code. We won’t do it. To be able to monitor this competition, it will not involve the AIU (independent body for the fight against adverse events in athletics), so the athletes will not benefit from a fair system. Moreover, according to the code, a country that is deprived of compliance does not have the right to organize major competitions,” Niggli told RIA Novosti.

In September 2023, the WADA Executive Committee decided to deprive RUSADA of its full status due to the non-compliance of state legislation with the World Anti-Doping Code.

On November 15, James McLeod, director of IOC relations with National Olympic Committees, advised National Olympic Committees not to participate in the Friendship Games.

The first World Friendship Games are scheduled to be held in Moscow and Yekaterinburg from September 15 to 29, 2024.
