Rebrov’s team on November 20 will only be satisfied with a victory
Italy won a convincing victory at home against North Macedonia in qualification Euro 2024 – 5:2.
The hosts had a significant advantage and realized it quite quickly. At first, the referees did not count Giacomo Raspadori’s goal due to offside, but then the Napoli forward delivered a high-quality cross to the far post, and Matteo Darmian opened Stole Dimitrievski’s goal.
The visiting goalkeeper made his bid for the title of hero when he saved a penalty in Jorginho’s trademark (with a jump) performance. But a minute later the goalkeeper was powerless after Federico Chiesa’s precise low shot. Before the end of the half, Italy managed to complete the defeat – and Chiesa was greatly helped by a rebound from a defender.
It seemed like the game was over, but after the break the Balkans managed to revive the intrigue out of nothing. First, fresh Yani Atanasov got ahead of both two defenders and Gianluigi Donnarumma after a set piece. Then the same Atanasov hit at random from afar, and then the rebound was on the side of the underdog.
The ghost of intrigue died very soon when Raspadori finally scored himself, and did it legitimately. And in stoppage time, substitute Stephan El Shaarawy again made a big difference in the score.
Absolutely deserved success for Luciano Spalletti’s team, which scored 13 points and pushed Ukraine into second place in Group C.
Now, in order to qualify for the Euro directly, Sergei Rebrov’s team needs to beat Squadra Azzurra with any score in a head-to-head match in the last round.
Ukraine will play against Italy on Monday, November 20, in Leverkusen (Germany) at the BayArena stadium. The meeting starts at 21:45 Kyiv time. At the end of October, ticket sales for the final match of the blue-yellows in the group round of qualifying began.
