On November 17, the 33-year-old Russian, playing with white pieces, managed to defeat Americans Fabiano Caruana, Jeffrey Xiong and Ray Robson, but lost to another American representative, Wesley So, and Frenchman Alireza Firouzja. With black pieces, Nepomniachtchi managed to defeat the Vietnamese Le Quan Liem, the Frenchman Maxime Vachier-Lagrave and another American Samuel Sevyan, but lost to the Dutchman Anish Giri.

The tournament in St. Louis will end on November 19. Ten chess players will participate in 2023, who first played the rapid tournament and then the blitz tournament. Recall that in July Ian Nepomniachtchi took second place during the third stage of the Grand Chess Tour in Croatia.
