Chiesa: With Ukraine we will play to win, without thinking about holding a draw

The Italian national team defeated North Macedonia and took second place in Group C

Midfielder Italian national team Federico Chiesa commented on the victory over North Macedonia (5:2) in qualifying European Championship 2025.

“The main thing was to win. Unfortunately, in the second half we conceded two goals that we didn’t deserve. Sometimes that’s the beauty of active play. We showed that we want to dominate the game. We deserved the result we got.”

“Now we are playing in the qualifiers against Ukraine on Monday. We will play to win again, not even thinking that a draw will be enough to qualify.”

Chiesa scored a brace in the first half of the match against North Macedonia. The Italians, who crushed their opponents before the break, conceded twice in the second half of the match. However, then Squadra Azzurra again brought the score to a large one.

The Italian team scored 13 points and displaced Ukraine from second place in Group C. To qualify for the Euro directly, Sergei Rebrov’s team needs to beat Squadra Azzurra with any score in a head-to-head match in the last round.

Ukraine will play against Italy on Monday, November 20, in Leverkusen (Germany) at the BayArena stadium. The meeting starts at 21:45 Kyiv time. At the end of October, ticket sales for the final match of the blue-yellows in the group round of qualifying began.
