Ukrainian weightlifter Svetlana Samulyak became absolute world champion among juniors.
The 20-year-old athlete won three gold medals in the up to 59 kilogram category at the 2023 U-20 World Cup. The Ukrainian won the snatch with a weight of 98 kg, took first place in the clean and jerk (116 kg) and scored the best total in the all-around (214 kg).
Last year, Samulyak won a silver medal in the all-around at the 2022 Junior World Championships. This fall, the Ukrainian competed at the elite world championship, finishing in 26th place.
The 2023 World Junior Championships take place in Guadalajara, Mexico from November 15 to 23. Ukraine is represented at the competition by eight athletes.
