To qualify for Euro 2024, Sergei Rebrov’s team will only need a victory over Italy
Centerback of the Ukrainian national team Valery Bondar shared his expectations for the upcoming match with Italy in qualifying for the 2024 European Championship.
“Training in the snow? We were happy about the first snow, but at the same time we think about how cold it is now for our guys at the front and we want to help them. And we can help with positive emotions, which we really want to provide on Monday, the 20th. We will do everything to please our soldiers. But we are also a little cold, our feet are freezing, but we are getting used to it. It’s a tough field, of course, but what can you do?”
“Now we need to remember a little about the work we did before and prepare for the match with Italy. The coaching staff needs to show us tactics, explain how we will act, and convey all the points that he wants to see from us. This is exactly what we are working on now.”
“I have very positive emotions from working with Sergei Rebrov. It’s interesting, because each coach has his own style. You must take the best from everyone and become more developed in all aspects every day. Good coaching staff.”
“Of course, it’s a great pride when you come to our team and have the right to represent the country. This is a big responsibility for me. We’ll see what we can do on Monday.”
Sergei Rebrov’s team will play against Italy on November 20 in Leverkusen (Germany) at the BayArena stadium, starting at 20:45 local time (21:45 Kyiv time).
The Ukraine-Italy match will be refereed by the Spanish team led by Jesus Gil Manzano. The Ukrainian anthem before the match will be performed by Sergei Ivanchuk, who miraculously survived enemy shelling in 2022.
In the first head-to-head match of Group C, which took place in September, the Italians beat Ukraine (2:1). Davide Frattesi scored a brace for Squadra Azzurra, and Andrei Yarmolenko scored a goal for the blue-and-yellows.
In the standings, Italy and Ukraine share second and third places. Italy is ahead of the blue-yellows due to additional indicators. To qualify for Euro 2024, Sergei Rebrov’s team will only need a victory.
