Spalletti: Ukraine has a powerful attack, they have players suitable for the leagues they play in

The coach of the Italian team respects the opponent, but is confident in a positive result

Head coach of the national team Italy Luciano Spalletti spoke with reporters before the key qualifying match Euro 2024 against the national team Ukraine.

“The guys are doing well, they are all at my disposal and I am spoiled for choice. I have quality in everything and important potential. We are going to Germany with confidence that this is a match in which we can achieve a result. We’ve got a group of players like Chiesa who know how to make a difference and we’ve got some new elements that could be strengths for the future of this team. The attitude has to be to play the way we agreed and the way we trained not only this week but from the first meeting with all our champions.”

“Ukraine has a strong, powerful attack, they have players suitable for the leagues they play in. We will have to behave as a team and do our best. The importance of the match means we have to go beyond our limits, we want the Italians to fall in love with us and this is the right time. This is the right moment to make a leap in level, which will subsequently allow us to work more calmly.”

In the first head-to-head match of Group C, which took place in September, the Italians beat Ukraine (2:1). Davide Frattesi scored a brace for Squadra Azzurra, and Andrei Yarmolenko scored a goal for the blue-and-yellows.

The Italian team is in second place in Group C with 13 points. Ukraine also has 13 points, but is inferior to Italy in additional indicators. To qualify for the Euro directly, Sergei Rebrov’s team needs to beat Squadra Azzurra with any score in a head-to-head match in the last round.

Ukraine will play against Italy on Monday, November 20, in Leverkusen (Germany) at the BayArena stadium. The meeting starts at 21:45 Kyiv time.

The Ukraine-Italy match will be refereed by the Spanish team led by Jesus Gil Manzano. The Ukrainian anthem before the match will be performed by Sergei Ivanchuk, who miraculously survived enemy shelling in 2022.
