Three-time Olympic figure skating champion and State Duma deputy Irina Rodnina noted that sports federations independently decide on the admission of Russians to international competitions and that their decisions correspond to the suitability of the relevant organization.
– Already now, many athletes cannot participate in international competitions. But it must be understood that in this situation everything depends on the sports federations themselves. The same International Olympic Committee (IOC) can make a recommendation, and each organization decides for itself. Where federations are normal, the solution is normal,” said Rodnina, quoted by RT.
In February, the IOC Executive Board recommended that international federations not allow Russians and Belarusians to participate in competitions due to events in Ukraine.
