Russian skier Maria Gushchina told she was not interested in the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) decision to disqualify her for 12 months.
— I don’t care about the disqualification decision. We decided this now… – Gushchina told .
On Tuesday, the press service of the Russian Anti-Doping Committee (RUSADA) reported that the CAS had disqualified Gushchina for 12 months, with the 34-year-old athlete’s suspension period starting on October 27, 2023. Thus, the CAS partially canceled the previous decision of the RUSADA Anti-Doping Disciplinary Commission dated June 23, 2022 on a sanction in the form of a warning to Gushchina for the violation provided for in Article 2.2 of the All-Russian Anti-Doping Rules (the use or attempt to use by an athlete of a prohibited substance or a prohibited method).
Gushchina, as part of the Russian women’s team, won a bronze medal in the relay at the 2013 World Championships in Val di Fiemme, Italy. Now the athlete is not performing at a professional level.
