Donnarumma: Judging by the replay, Ukraine could have been given a penalty

The goalkeeper of Squadra Azzurra noted that the match with Ukraine was difficult

Goalkeeper Italian national team Gianluigi Donnarumma commented on the final match with Ukraine in qualification European Championship 2024.

“It was definitely necessary, it was fundamental, and we are very happy. It was a difficult, difficult match. The Ukrainian national team is a great team, we knew that we would have to suffer in order to bring home qualification for the European Championship.”

“From my position on the field, I didn’t see the episode with Mudryk’s fall very well. Then I looked at the video, in my opinion, it was possible to put a penalty there.”

The Italian national team took second place in Group C and directly qualified for the 2024 European Championship. Spalletti’s team scored 14 points, like the Ukrainian team, but finished above the blue-yellows due to a better head-to-head difference.

Sergei Rebrov’s team will now compete for access to Euro 2024 in the Nations League playoffs. The blue-and-yellows will be waiting for the “final four” of division A or division B – this will be decided by a draw.

If they get into the playoffs of Division B, the Ukrainian team’s opponents will be Bosnia and Herzegovina and Israel, as well as Finland or Iceland. If we get into the playoffs of Division A, our team will have to compete with Poland, Estonia, as well as Wales or Croatia.
