Athletistic/Others. Olympic champion and member of the State Duma Svetlana Zhurova expressed her opinion on the statement of the President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Thomas Bach, who noted that athletes are not responsible for the actions of their governments and their national Olympic committees (NOCs), believing that such statements indicate double standards

During his speech at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Bach stressed that athletes should not be held responsible for the actions of governments and NOCs. He also indicated that this principle is also respected in the context of the suspension of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC).

Zhurova expressed disappointment with Bach’s statements, considering them the use of double standards. She noted that the IOC appears to be ruling out its principles on a country-by-country basis and called for an end to nationalism and double standards in world sport.

  • Zhurova did not agree with MP Teryushkov, who called on national clubs to organize training camps in Russia
