Athletistic/Others. Dmitry Vasiliev, two-time Olympic biathlon champion, expressed his comments in an interview with SE regarding the statements of the President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Thomas Bach. Bach stressed that athletes should not be held responsible for the actions of their governments and national Olympic committees.

“Those responsible for respecting the Olympic Charter and non-interference of sport in politics themselves violated these principles. After February 24, Thomas Bach proposed to all international federations to suspend Russian athletes from participation to all sports. He is now falsely and hypocritically stating that athletes should not take responsibility for the actions of their governments. This is a clear example of hypocrisy and lies.

His attitude is nothing but disappointment. Thomas Bach will become a historical figure associated with the destruction of the Olympic movement. He will forever be remembered as the one who made an irreversible contribution to the loss of the principles of the Olympic idea,” Vasiliev noted in an interview with SE.
