Chikunova on her 50m breaststroke victory in the Chechen Republic: “I still won’t turn away from my love for the 200m”

Swimming world record holder Evgenia Chikunova said she wouldn’t trade her love for the 200-meter breaststroke for anything, even if she manages to improve her results at other distances.

On Tuesday, Chikunova won the 50m breaststroke at the Russian Short Course Swimming Championships, held in St. Petersburg.

— Yulia Efimova has arrived, and everyone is trying to play on the confrontation between the lilac and pink caps in the breaststroke. You were sailing in a calmer atmosphere. How are you coping?

— I wouldn’t say that the atmosphere was calm. Alina Zmushko came. There are always rivals, but my main rival is myself.

— You increase by 50 m and 100 m, does this mean that 200 m will take second place? It’s hard to do everything right.

— Yes, it’s difficult, because you need a different technique for the fifty dollars. The 200m breaststroke remains a priority. This is my accent, this is my love, and I will not turn away from it, even if I swim for fifty dollars in a world record,” Chikunova told .

Chikunova broke the world record in the 200 meter breaststroke in April this year at the Russian Championships in Kazan. Efimova is the winner of silver and bronze at the Olympic Games in this distance.
