“It’s not going to get worse.” Tarasova assessed the situation in Russian sport

Honored Coach of the USSR Tatiana Tarasova said that, despite the sanctions of international organizations, the development of sport in Russia will continue, and stressed that no further deterioration of the situation should be expected.

– I think it won’t be worse than it is now. Our country will continue to develop sport. And it won’t work to create a world without us,” Tarasova told RT.

At the end of February, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) recommended that international federations prevent Russian and Belarusian athletes from participating in competitions due to the situation in Ukraine. Many federations followed the recommendations and withdrew Russians and Belarusians. In addition, Russia lost the right to host many major sporting events, including the Champions League football final and the volleyball world championship.

On Tuesday July 5, the website of the US State Department published a statement signed by the sports authorities of 34 other countries, which proposes to suspend the membership of Russia and Belarus to all international sports federations and to consider the possibility of suspending the broadcasting of sports competitions on the territory of these two countries.
