Saadi, double Olympic champion, appeals his lifetime ban

Two-time Olympic champion in artistic gymnastics as a member of the USSR national team, Elvira Saadi, has filed an appeal against the decision of the Canadian Artistic Gymnastics Federation to ban her for life from coaching, said the lawyer Elliott Saccucci.

Gymnastics Canada previously banned Saadi for life from coaching, producing programs and judging competitions due to allegations of emotional and psychological abuse against gymnasts. After 10 years, Saadi will be allowed to train coaches, but she will not be able to have direct contact with athletes.

“I did not represent Saadi at the disciplinary hearing, where she was the only party not to have had the assistance of a lawyer paid for by Gymnastics Canada, but I represent her in the appeal and I can report that this one has already been filed and the case is ongoing,” Saccucci told TSN.

Saadi is a two-time Olympic champion in team competitions. Since 1991, she has lived and worked in Canada.
