“The Gypsy King” needs to change his strategy in the ring
John Furyfather of the WBC world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury commented on the upcoming fight of the British for the title of absolute world champion against the holder of the WBO/WBA/IBF/IBO heavyweight titles Alexandra Usik.
“February 17 is the date they need to aim for. But, in my opinion, Tyson needs a little more time to get his physical shape and weight back to normal.”
“In terms of his last three fights, I have seen some decline. Not a decrease in ability, but a decrease in strength, power and physical condition. I don’t know what they’re doing there, you need to look into it. He didn’t look good in Saudi Arabia.”
“Against the old Tyson, Ngannou couldn’t hit him. They always miss it in the corner. They don’t look at what their opponent is doing. He needs to change that. Somehow they think that one tactic works for all fighters, but that’s not true.”
“The style that I see is not good, it will be useless to box with Usyk, just standing in front of him. You need to be smart and dexterous, just like him [Усик]. But if you are not trained in this, what can you say?
“Usyk is nowhere near as big and strong as Ngannou, who is one of the hardest punchers in the world. But he is an experienced heavyweight, and for this they need to train. With this fighting style, Tyson now would not have been able to defeat Wladimir Klitschko in 2015.”
The heavyweight championship fight for the IBF, IBO, WBO, WBA Super and The Ring titles between Tyson Fury and Wladimir Klitschko took place in November 2015 in Dusseldorf, Germany. The Briton won by unanimous decision.
The Usik-Fury fight for the title of absolute heavyweight champion will officially take place on February 17 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Initially, the fight was planned to be organized on December 23 in Riyadh. However, it later became clear that the “Gypsy King” would not have time to prepare for this time after the fight with Francis Ngannou at the end of October.
Alexander said that he is mentally prepared for a confrontation with Tyson. Before this, during a duel of glances, Usyk and Fury collided with their foreheads and began to push. Tyson also, in his characteristic manner, began to insult the Ukrainian champion.
Fury defeated Ngannou via split decision. It was reported that the Briton received two cuts in a fight with the former UFC champion.
Usik fought his last fight on August 27 in Wroclaw, Poland. The Ukrainian knocked out Daniel Dubois in the 9th round and defended his championship titles.
