Member of the Committee for Physical Culture and Sports of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Roman Tereshkov decided to send a deputy request to the public prosecutor’s office to verify the legality of the removal of the gymnast Ivan Kulyak national competitions.
The Gymnastics Ethics Foundation (GEF) Disciplinary Commission in May suspended Kulyak for a period of one year for the fact that in March during the World Cup in Doha he participated in the award ceremony in parallel bars competitions with the letter Z on his uniform. On June 7, Kulyak appealed this decision. On July 3, the Russian Artistic Gymnastics Federation (FSGR) announced that Kulyak would not participate in the national tournaments organized by the FSGR until the decision of the WEF Appeal Tribunal on the athlete’s request.
– What happens? A punishment for patriotism? The athlete is banned from performing in his own country, which he supported?! I think there is complete legal chaos with the tacit consent of sports officials. I am sending a deputy request to the prosecutor’s office to verify the legality of the suspension of the athlete and the violation of the Constitution of the Russian Federation, Teryushkova wrote on the Telegram channel.
— Meanwhile, at the award ceremony of the junior boxing tournament in Hungary, Ukrainian Diana Petrenko proudly unfurled her national flag with the symbols of the nationalist battalion. But this action did not arouse any reaction either from the European Boxing Confederation or from the international association.
Ivan Kulyak’s act was then largely provoked by the Ukrainian participants, who insulted Russia, said unpleasant things to the athletes, and also demanded that the entire team be withdrawn from the competition. In addition, they came to the platform wrapped in their national flags, which is prohibited by FIG rules. However, neither in this case, nor after Petrenko’s trickery, did any disciplinary action follow, – added Teryushkov.
