Double European short course swimming champion Arina Surkova updated the Russian record for the 50m butterfly.
This feat was achieved by the 25-year-old athlete at the Russian Short Course Championships in St. Petersburg. She clocked 24.58 seconds in her semifinal on Wednesday. Thus, she improved the national record she set in November 2022 by 0.26 seconds. 0.2 seconds was not enough for Surkova to repeat the world record.
