Swimmer Minakov about the lack of victories at the Chechen Championship: “Of course, it hits you psychologically, but it also hardens you”

Medalist at the World Swimming Championships Andrei Minakov said he would be bolstered by the lack of individual victories at the Russian championships this season.

Minakov on Friday became third in the 50m butterfly at the Russian Short Course Swimming Championships in St. Petersburg. He won silver in the 100 meters. At the Russian Long Course Championships, he was also left without personal victories.

— Are you satisfied with your results? What do you say to those who say Minakov has lost his mind?

— Some departures worked, others did not. Somehow, bad luck. The 200m freestyle relay is currently the fifth best time of the season in the world, 0.11 seconds behind Martin Malyutin’s winning time. We can’t say that the person was blown away.

– What’s stopping you now?

– Now is the time to work. There is a misunderstanding about what happens next, the preparation changes, the diploma is coming soon.

– Lots of distractions?

– Yes. I am sure that as soon as we return to international competitions, everything will be different. In the meantime, I can concentrate, get a good diploma, with good grades. Then there will be a reboot. And continue to work while devoting myself entirely to swimming. It’s difficult to reconcile, especially when you live in two countries. I try to do everything I can to succeed in both cases.

— You have always been the “golden boy” of the butterfly, talented. Is the current “just a little” hitting you psychologically?

– It hits, but it also hardens. It proves that life is never that simple. To move forward, you need to step back, accelerate and take off,” Minakov told .
