Athletistic/Fencing. The Congress of the International Fencing Federation (FIE) has rejected the proposal of the Ukrainian Fencing Federation (FFU) to suspend Russia’s membership. This is reported by the official website of the Russian Fencing Federation (RFF).

At the congress, attended by the President of the FFR, Ilgar Mamedov, it was proposed to the FFU to suspend the membership of the Russian and Belarusian Fencing Federations in the FIE and to prohibit Russian and Belarusian athletes from participating to competitions. However, the congress participants did not support this request of the Ukrainian delegates, as stated in the official statement.

Previously, the FIE Congress decided by majority to send Russian and Belarusian fencers back to international competitions with a neutral status. However, several prominent Russian athletes were barred from competing, including Olympic champions Sofia Pozdnyakova, Sofia Velikaya and Yana Yegoryan.

  • The president of the Russian Fencing Federation announced that he would invite foreign athletes to the Friendship Games.
