Petr Cech played the first official match for the Belfast Giants hockey team

During the time allotted to him, the ex-football player kept his team’s goal intact

Former Chelsea football goalkeeper Petr Cech played for the hockey club for the first time Belfast Giants.

The 41-year-old goalkeeper entered the ice 4:43 before the end of the 3rd period of the EIHL (Elite British Hockey League) championship match against Glasgow Clan.

The Czech athlete appeared on the court with the score 5:1 in favor of his team. In the remaining time, Peter saved one shot. The match ended with the same score.

Let us remember that Cech previously moved to Belfast Giants on loan from Oxford City Stars.

Belfast is the fourth hockey club for which the former footballer will play. Peter previously played for Guildford Phoenix and Chelmsford.

Earlier in 2023, Cech took part in a charity hockey match of the Belfast Giants team against Kherson Dnieper. The match took place as part of the Ukrainian Hockey Dream program to raise money to help Ukrainian hockey players and coaches.

As a footballer, Cech played 333 matches for Chelsea between 2004 and 2015. Together with the Blues, the Czech goalkeeper won the Premier League four times and also won the Champions League in 2012. In addition, he played for Sparta Prague, French Rennes and London Arsenal. He played 124 matches as a member of the Czech football team.

Belfast claimed their first win in their last five matches to leapfrog Glasgow into 7th place in the EIHL standings. Cech’s team is only four points behind leaders Sheffield.
