Swedish Moa Ilar won the 20 km freestyle event at the first stage of the Cross-Country Skiing World Cup in Ruka, Finland.
Ilar covered the distance in 55 minutes 40.8 seconds. The American finishes second Jessica Diggins with a gap of 0.3 seconds, another American representative won bronze Rosie Brennan (+1.4).
Diggins lost his pole on the final lap. While handing over replacement equipment, a team employee touched the Olympic champion’s face and inflicted an injury, leaving the American with blood on her face.

In the men’s race over a similar distance, Norwegian Jan Jensen took first place – 48.08.9. Czech Michal Novak (+0.7) won silver and another Norwegian representative, Harald Amundsen (+2.1), won bronze. Five-time Olympic champion Johannes Klebo finished 21st, 54.8 seconds behind.
